A HALLOWEEN EVE AT COLLINWOOD
A poem by Lalita Rudy

Twas the night of Halloween and all through the house

There was screeching and screaming, but not from a mouse.

The thirty-two rooms were all empty it seemed

Except for the ghosts and the horrors we dreamed.

Barnabas was lying in his coffin until dusk

And Elizabeth smelled of the perfume called Musk

And Victoria was fretting about her past

And David was wondering how long his patience would last.

Quentin was worried that his portrait might be found

For on Halloween evening there were terrors abound.

Tipping over cows was a worrisome play

For the vampires would not arrive til the end of the day.

The werewolves were howling and Josette floated by

And Angelique was coming to check with a sigh

Whether Barnabas would have a new change of heart

And let their romance and marriage have a new start.

Then Roger was coming along with a look

That seemed to come out of a scary movie or book.

The wind howled with the dogs in the night

And Amy was cuddled with Carolyn, they'd both had a fright.

And Dr. Woodard had been called to check on Willie

For he'd been scared so much and acted so silly.

The children of Collinsport soon would be here

Wanting candy and apples and maybe some beer.

So Sam Evans had arrived with quite a store

And Maggie was wandering through the streets, near the shore.

And someone came along with a smile on his face

Wondering if the Great Pumpkin would dare enter this place.

Then suddenly there was a man arrived in town who was new

And the darkness was such that it made him feel blue

And he was looking for a mate, at least, that's what he said,

But he admitted that she was very much dead.

So he was sent off as the children arrived

With their bags ready for candy and with tricks to play that's for what they strived.
